Wedding Policy at Centre Church

Because of its architectural beauty, Centre Church is host to many weddings. We continue to serve our community in this way. The first call that needs to be made about a wedding is to the church office to see if the date and time is available. After briefly discussing plans, the pastor will want to make an appointment to talk with the couple in person..

Frequently asked Questions

Do you marry people who are not members of your church?
Yes.

Do you rent the sanctuary to people who have their own pastors?
No.

Who has the final say in the content of the wedding?
The pastor.

How many times will the pastor wish to meet with the couple?
Probably three times.

Is Centre Church Open and Affirming?
Yes. Centre Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, is an Opening and Affirming Church. We welcome all people, including, heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people into the full life and ministry of the congregation, including marriage, membership, leadership, ordination, and employment. Centre Congregational Church's policy seeks to be consistent with the Open and Affirming declaration of the United Church of Christ adopted in 1985. http://www.ucc.org/lgbt/ona.htm.

Can we use rice, confetti, balloons, etc. outside the building?
No. Bubbles might be OK.

What about photography?
Photos by a professional photographer are permitted during the ceremony.  A video of the ceremony may be taken from the balcony during the ceremony.  Other photography is not permitted during the ceremony.

How much does it cost to have a wedding at your church?
The total expected donation for a non-member wedding is $1,050 (this includes organist, custodian, pastor and donation to the church).

How early is the church open on the day of the wedding?
One hour before the ceremony.

Can we decorate the sanctuary?
Flowers are good. Moderation is encouraged. No tacks or tape can be used. Flowers on the pew ends are frequently knocked off during the processional – so they are probably not a great idea.

How many months before the wedding date should we contact the pastor?
At least six months. A year is better.

Is the Pastor available to do weddings at places other than in the Church sanctuary?
Yes.  You must contact the pastor and discuss this with him.

Are other pastors allowed to participate in the wedding?
The pastor at Centre Church will be happy to discuss this with you. Professional etiquette requires that any such invitation come from the host pastor, not from members of the wedding party.

Is the church handicap accessible?
Yes.
