Parish Council Minutes

August 15, 2005

The moderator convened the meeting at 7:10 P.M. Present were Bruce Gist, Tony Lucia, Phil Johnson, Barbara Langill, Susan Lambe, Mike Dunfee, Debbie Cotting, Linda Ladd, Hugh Penney and George Hayden. Randy Russell was present as a guest. The meditation was offered by Susan Lambe. The minutes from the July 26th meeting were amended and accepted.

Randy distributed copies of all the suggested inclusions to our future Mission Statement. Randy noted that many of the ideas submitted had similarities; and he thought it would be a good idea to have a 3-person team review the statements. The team will meet before the next council meeting to discuss and streamline all the proposed ideas. The group will consist of Linda Ladd, Mike Dunfee, Bruce Gist and Susan Lambe. This meeting will be scheduled for early September.

Moderator’s Report: Phil informed us that the search committee is nearly complete and will have their first meeting with Tom Clough on September 7th. Possibly adding a youth to the group during the interviewing stage was discussed. Potential key members of the stewardship committee will be contacted this week.

Pastor’s Report: Mike reported that his home was burglarized last weekend and both his computers were taken. Good portions of his files were backed up, but he did lose some sermons and other information. He is considering his O&A strategy for fall; the first step will be defining for the congregation what "Open and Affirming" actually means.

Christian Ed. Report: Barbara announced that the first Rotation Sensation workshop for fall would be "Noah’s Ark." She is currently planning the shareholder’s dinner from the youth group mission trip to North Carolina. Members of that group have been invited to a reunion on August 20th.

Bruce has reviewed new sound and lighting plans for the sanctuary. The Craig Newell Memorial Fund has been designated for the purpose of updating the Audio-Visuals for our church. Bruce will order new microphones and continue to research lighting designs.

Tower Day School Update: Linda reported that Mike and Jeff Langill have found a way to reconfigure the playground fence to allow access to the church without going through the playground. This will hopefully be completed before school opening. Funding sources for other major building changes to accommodate safety and security issues for Tower Day need to be identified.

The moderator adjourned the meeting at 9:05 P.M. The next council meeting will take place on September 27th, 2005.

Respectfully submitted,
Susan Lambe, Recording Clerk
