Parish Council Minutes

January 20, 2004

The moderator convened the meeting at 7:10 P.M. Present were Raymond Patch, Bruce Gist, Phil Johnson, Hugh Penney, Bill Newell, George Hayden, Bill Hoey, Barbara Langill and Susan Lambe. Raymond offered the meditation; minutes from the 1/6 meeting were approved.

Senior Pastor’s Report: In the past 2 weeks, 3 funerals have taken place at CCC. This Sunday will include Communion in the chapel that is being conducted by Worship Team members Dwight Decker, George Hayden and Marge Robins. Confirmation classes are going well. A Lenten reading group that will study Harold Kushner’s book The Lord is My Shepherd, Healing Wisdom of the Twenty-Third Psalm is being planned.

Christian Ed. Report: During the Annual Meeting, the Wiggles and Giggles instructors will supervise all CCC youth. A new Parents of Young Children group will begin on Feb. 2nd. We have 7 students planning to attend the National UCC event this summer in Tennessee. Fund raisers planned include selling subs for Super Bowl Sunday and a Bingo game during our Mardi Gras event. We are also planning another Easter sunrise service this year, Easter is April 11th.

Treasurer’s Report: The proposed 2004 budget was discussed and approved by Council.

Moderator’s Report: An anonymous donor has offered to donate $10,000 towards the cost of hiring a consultant to give CCC professional guidance in revising our stewardship/financial programs, and assisting with an accelerated membership drive. The donor has challenged us to match the donation and to raise whatever additional funds are needed to complete the project. The moderator moved to accept the donation and to ask the church to authorize the use of $10,000 from the Special Endowment fund at Annual Meeting. Council voted to move forward with this. Phil then discussed the upcoming Annual Meeting and reviewed the vision and challenge for the future of CCC that he will present.

Board of Worship: Another lay communion service will take place this Sunday in the chapel at 9:30.

Nominating Update: the vacancy for the chairperson for the Board of Parish Life was discussed.

The regular Parish Council meeting was concluded at 9:45, at which time an executive session on personnel issues was held. This portion of the meeting adjourned at 10:15 P.M.
